It’s announcement time for Stamford Stoves! We are very proud to let you know that we are now a stockist for the wonderful manufacturer Charnwood, and will be featuring them in our brand-new showroom. Charnwood are an English company who create a stunning blend of traditional and modern stoves that will bring warmth and style to any home.
We love this business for many reasons, not least because they are the oldest manufacturer of wood burning stoves in the UK. Based on the Isle of Wight, they have been in business since 1972 and are a fabulous family company which is still run by the second and third generations of the Wells family to this day.
ABOUT THE BUSINESS
The business actually began life in the early 70s as an engineering firm, starting out with machinery and tractor repairs and then diversifying into ironwork, including products such as fire hoods and freestanding fireplaces.
However, in 1974, with an oil crisis causing fuel prices in the UK to skyrocket, Charnwood decided to produce their first wood-burning stove – and the Charnwood Beacon was born!

From these humble beginnings, Charnwood as we know it today gradually evolved, with an ever-growing range of stoves and more and more family members getting involved! Over the last 40 years, the business has expanded into France, Japan and South Africa (with Stamford the latest location on the map!) and now employs over 150 staff in its 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse on the Isle of Wight.
